Exciting New SEO Data In Google Webmaster Tools

16-04-2010

Ok well exciting to me...

This week we have noticed that Google is sharing some of the previously held secret non-paid search data. They have expanded the reporting in the Top Search Queries section of the tool and with this are releasing data impressions associated with specifically your websites non paid search for the first time.

If the trial has been rolled out to your account, the click through rate (CTR) comparing different positions in the search engine results pages (SERPs) with the associated CTR is right there to see now. It was always estimated, but to now know the drop off rate of CTR in the lower positional slots associated with your website is amazing!

If there are multiple site pages within the SERPs it is possible to see which pages are receiving the best CTR. Unfortunately the SERP and the pages report data is not stitched together so a little bit of processing is needed to evaluate if it is position or call to action that is driving the traffic.

So what does it all mean? You now have data to optimise your non paid adcopy in the same way that you optimise your paid adcopy, very cool!

If you have a website and you are not using Google webmaster tools, I really recommend getting your site verified, by placing a small snippet of code on your site. This tool opens up a whole wealth of information about your sites relationship with the biggest search engine currently in the market. Do it...do it now!!
