A new home page to introduce the new features was produced by digital communications agency Redweb which developed the website last year.

New viewers can now search and see what they will be getting before they register and pay to view faithfully-scanned images of original documents.

Pay-as-you-go vouchers will be available from libraries and archives around the UK from late sept.

1837online.com provides internet-based genealogical services to professional and non-professional researchers. It holds an entire copy of the indexes of Birth, Marriages and Deaths for England and Wales from 1837 (when registration commenced) to 2003 - as well as overseas Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1761 to 1994, and the complete 1861 census for England and Wales.
