Redweb gains green certificate

Digital agency Redweb has won official 'green' certification. The Dorset-based company has just been awarded ISO14001 for its Environmental Management. This now makes an ISO hat trick for Redweb, having previously gained ISO27001 Security Management in 2006 and ISO9001 Quality Management in 2004.

Managing director Andrew Henning believes small changes can make a huge difference. For example by ensuring each of Redweb's 41staff turn off all non essential office equipment overnight, they save enough energy to run a small car for 100 miles each day or make over 4,500 cups of tea (source: Carbon Trust).

He said: "As a business, we are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and, most of all, acting responsibly - whether it's cutting down on paper usage or pollution. The biggest difference we can make is saving energy, such as electricity, gas and water."

And he praised staff for their involvement: "I am delighted that our commitment to supporting greener initiatives has been recognised. I'm proud that this isn't just a management exercise, but something that all the staff fully support."

Mr Henning said employees had been working for the accreditation since October 2006 and had put in considerable time and effort.

He also commented that it is good for business as many business partners demand it, whilst creating a knock on effect as we now place obligations on Redweb's suppliers.

Redweb may have gained the certification, but the hard work is not over. "We are now committed to constantly monitoring our performance against targets that we have set to ensure change is measurable," added Mr Henning.

And the company has listed a number of environmental pledges such as encouraging the use of water glasses at water dispensers instead of using paper cups, light sensors in certain rooms and recycling computer equipment and printer cartridges.
