Redweb has listed a number of environmental pledges such as encouraging the use of water glasses at water fountains instead of using paper cups and recycling computer equipment and printer cartridges.

To save electricity the company has installed ´switch off when you leave the room´ signage & prompts; signage to encourage people to use kettles efficiently; reminders to turn off photocopiers, printers, monitors and computers when not in use; and has introduced light controls that automatically switch-off when a room is not in use.

Reducing paper use comes through double-sided printing and photocopying, re-using envelopes; encouraging greater use of the phone & email to increase paper-free communication; recycling of waste paper; and by making donations to Charity instead of sending corporate Christmas cards.

These have been backed up with a host of improvements for staff, including encouraging cycling to work (by providing lockable bike parks, better staff training opportunities, Investors in People, sponsoring  charities and community events and working arrangements to improve work-life balance, such as flexible working and home-working.

Redweb’s managing director Andrew Henning said: “Some of these practices were already in place at Redweb prior to us signing up to the campaign and we have enjoyed the benefits of being a socially- and environmentally-aware employer. Our staff got behind this initiative with gusto and helped us extend our existing policies with tangible pledges to put all this into place.”

Better Together Dorset is an initiative from Dorset Business, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
