Pupils from Dorset school Avonbourne have been 'highly commended' at this year's national British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) Schools Digital Challenge awards' ceremony.
The event was held at Channel 4's studios last night and attended by senior education dignitaries from academia and government sectors as well as key members from the digital industry.
The BIMA Schools Digital Challenge is an annual competition for students aged 11-18, held in partnership with key industry organisations, and is part of BIMA's drive to inspire young people to get involved in the digital industry. This year, schools across the UK were asked to devise a digital solution that provides real practical benefits for their community. Avonbourne School conducted research into the online needs of older people and ran classes on using the internet.
Digital agency Redweb, who assisted them with initial brainstorming and mentoring, also attended the event to celebrate the achievement with the students. Andrew Henning, CEO at Redweb and BIMA executive says: 'We wanted to build on our involvement following last year's event and supporting Avonbourne is another example of how we are working to bridge the gap between education and the digital media industry. We have enjoyed working with the pupils and have been inspired by their passion and commitment to the project.'
