Intranet use is growing fast with large organisations enjoying its benefits, reports digital communications agency Redweb, but many SMEs are yet to discover its efficiencies, including staff productivity improvements.
And if a company wants to see an intranet being used to its maximum advantage, MD Andrew Henning invites them to visit and see Redweb’s in action.
Andrew said: “We market an exceptional intranet system called Interact and regularly take the product to a client to demonstrate it - but it’s one thing to watch a demo and another to see it working effectively.
“We’re only a staff of 30 but we look back and ask how we managed without it. We handle staff holiday bookings online, publish all our policies and handbooks (not paper-based any more, so no more chasing around frantically when new staff arrive!), ISO documentation, sales updates, company news, training and software manuals and staff profiles.
The intranet works by holding a central repository of information that can be made available to whoever you want to see it, and no-one else. You can flag up to staff when there is something new they need to read or participate in and it will let managers see which members of staff are reading it.
Andrew said: “Used correctly, a good intranet can improve communication, streamline processes and reduce costs. Users report measurable improvements in the way their operations run - this almost always leads to cost savings and efficiency gains, which ultimately translate into increased profits or more available resources.
“Staff polls have been very useful for us, from which hotel shall we use for our Christmas Party, to whether or not we should have compulsory holiday shutdowns. We were surprised by the results and made decisions based on them.”
